Red Ward, so named for the ketchup-colored doors along the main corridor of the facility, painted in 1989 by order of Dr. Sevarou, who believes red to be the color of passion. That sexual offenders ought at all times be reminded of their crimes.
These days, though, things are different. Rehabilitation is the word. Visitors are no longer referred to as offenders—they are patients. They have an illness. They're sick. In the spring of 2004 all the red doors are repainted blue, the color designated by Dr. Pratz for its symbolism: purity, calm, water as a great cosmic cleansing force.
